With the end of the year looming, at Keela we have been looking back at what has happened this year; with new products, lots of shows and work on plans for 2015 it’s been a busy year!

The Gathering 2014

This year Keela were proud Platinum Sponsors of the UK & Irish Mountain Rescue Conference 2014 – The Gathering. The conference takes place every two years and is open to Mountain Rescue Teams from across the country. With a packed timetable including a series of outdoor workshops run by the likes of legendary Scottish climber Dave Macleod, the Keela Team had a great (but exhausting) time.

With the next conference set to be hosted by Scottish Teams, we’re looking forward to another great conference already!

SCAP – Sustainable Clothing Action Plan
In April Keela became the first clothing manufacturer in Scotland to sign up to the Sustainable Clothing Action Plan (SCAP), a programme delivered by Zero Waste Scotland to reduce the environmental impact of the clothing and textile industry.

Our commitment means we are looking to achieve;
• 15% reduction in carbon footprint;
• 15% reduction in water footprint;
• 15% reduction in waste to landfill; and
• 3.5% reduction in waste arising over the whole product life-cycle.

With SCAP’s support we have recently completed documenting our baseline levels for the water, carbon and waste impacts of our garments; and now we’re hard at work planning our next steps for 2015, to make sure we stay on track for our yearly reductions.

Some Extras
The Keela Team have also spent time this year undertaking some charity events.
We worked with Britain on Foot to create a spectacular night-time sound and light show at the Enchanted Forest. Multiple charities attended including; Bums Off Seats, Gotta Be Active Girls and a group supported by the North East Fife Detached Youth Work Team.

For the last six years Keela has been kitting out groups of youngsters from Chernobyl that come to visit Scotland. Organised by the Fife Link of Chernobyl Children’s Life Line (CCLL), the trip sees 10-12 kids visit the region for four weeks. The children stay with families throughout Fife and enjoy a full programme of outings and activities so they can enjoy fresh air, uncontaminated food, fun, love and attention, as well as being given dental and eye check ups.
